Tomohiro Mitsuse, who made his first appearance in the powerlifting men's 59 kg class at the Tokyo Paralympics, finished 10th at 145 kg, breaking his own Japanese record by 2 kg.

Powerlifting is a competition in which athletes with disabilities compete for the weight of barbells lifted by a bench press. At the Tokyo Paralympics, the "Tokyo International Forum" is held at the venue.

Mitsuse, a 28-year-old boy in the 59-kilometer class, just started the competition about four years ago, but continued to grow and set a new Japanese record, and participated in the Paralympics for the first time.

In the trial on the 27th, he succeeded in 135kg in the first attempt, and in the second attempt, he gained 10kg at a stretch and challenged 145kg, which is 2kg heavier than his own Japanese record.

In this attempt, Mitsuse smoothly raised the barbell and succeeded, breaking the Japanese record.

In the final third time, he failed 151km and finished in 10th place, but he achieved results on the first big stage.

The gold medal was Qi Yongkai of China who weighed 187 kg, the silver medal was Sherief Ottoman of Egypt, and the bronze medal was Herbert Aceituno of El Salvador.
