Mikael Ymer is strong in Winston-Salem's ATP tournament.

After a meritorious victory against 48-ranked Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round, there was also a win against Australian Max Purcell in the next match and Sverigeettan on the men's side is thus ready for the third quarter final of his life on the tour.

Against Purcell, the 90-ranked Swede had no problems, led from the first ball and won 7-5, 6-2 in the tournament in North Carolina.

The quarter-finals in Winston-Salem are the career - and this summer's third quarter-finals on the ATP Tour, after successes in Gstaad and Kitzbühel in July.

There were losses, and to get to a first semifinal, Ymer must now defeat 51-ranked American Frances Tiafore, who on the way to the quarterfinals defeated former world setter Andy Murray.

Ymer's topped form bodes well for the US Open, which starts next week and will be drawn later on Thursday.

In this year's fourth grand slam tournament, however, Mikael Ymer is not joined by his brother Elias, who lost directly in the US Open qualifiers, he only took four games against the Frenchman Maxime Janvier.
