• The northern club is found in group G with Salzburg, Wolsburg and Sevilla FC.

  • A band that looks pretty affordable on paper.

Lille is not doing too badly.

With Seville, Salzburg and Wolfsburg, the northern club inherited a fairly favorable draw on Thursday for the group stage of the Champions League.

No European cador type Real, Barça or Liverpool.

Not huge teams either.

If football fans may regret the absence of big posters with this group closer to the Europa League than the Champions League, at least the northern club clearly has a chance to play for qualification in the round of 16.

And to do better than two years ago when Losc had taken only one point in six games.

Review of the different adversaries.

Seville, the group's favorite

The least successful team on the paper of hat 2, Sevilla FC finished fourth in La Liga last season, behind the usual Atlético, Real and Barça.

Trained by Julen Lopetegui, a former Spanish coach who worked for FC Porto and Real Madrid in particular, Sevilla FC does not have high-sounding names in its workforce with the exception of Frenchman Jules Koundé, Spanish Jesus Navas or even the Croatian Ivan Rakitic.

But the Andalusian club is far from being a stooge on the European scene as recalled by its last success in the Europa League in 2020. It is also the third time in its history that Sevilla FC has crossed Losc in the cup from Europe.

In 2005 and 2006, it was in the UEFA Cup.

With a record of two wins in three games for Losc.

Salzburg, the most accessible team

Eight-time reigning Austrian champions, Red Bull Salzburg are an ogre in their country.

But that's another story on the European scene.

With the exception of a Europa League semi-final lost against OM in 2018, the Austrian club, coached by young Matthias Jaislle (33) rarely shines on the Old Continent.

In its workforce, no real star likely to give headaches to Northerners.

On paper, it is clearly the team that seems the most accessible.

Wolfsburg is not very scary

Like Sevilla, the German club is no stranger to Losc in Europe.

The two teams were in the same group of the Europa League 2014/2015.

With a draw in Germany and a heavy home defeat (0-3) to Pierre Mauroy for Lille.

Seven years later, the German club coached by Mark Van Bommel is not very scary.

Former Stéphanois Joshua Guilavogui's side finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season.

There too, no big stars in the workforce, but an opponent in the ropes of the champions of France.
