The Nice-Marseille football match was interrupted by the referee after the field was invaded by some Nice “supporters” this Sunday for a match for the third day of Ligue 1.

One hour and twenty minutes after the interruption, Nice wanted to resume the game, but not OM.

According to a source close to the matter, the prefect and the match delegate wished to resume the match, but the referee, Benoît Bastien, and OM did not want to. 

The match was definitively stopped by the referee after an hour and thirty minutes of interruption following the invasion of the field by some “supporters” from Nice.

The referee put the ball at the corner post, whistled and noted the absence of the Marseillais.

The incident began in the 75th minute with Nice leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Denmark's Kasper Dolberg, when OM player Dimitri Payet returned one of the many plastic bottles to the Nice supporters' stand. 'he received every time he went to take a corner.

Furious, supporters descended on the lawn to threaten the Marseille player, before the referee sent the players back to the locker room.

Brawl with supporters

Hit by one of the projectiles, Payet collapsed to the ground before getting up and grabbing the bottle that had hit him to throw it towards the stand.

His teammates Alvaro Gonzalez and Mattéo Guendouzi ran towards the “kop” to harangue the area where the bottle came from.

Dante, the Nice captain, arrived in turn to try to calm the supporters.

According to several sources, at least three OM players suffered from blows or strangulation marks after these clashes with the “supporters” of Nice.

The match between @OM_Officiel and @ogcnice interrupted for more than an hour for throwing projectiles and invasion of the field.

A security cordon of stewards, dressed in yellow vests, tried to stop the supporters, but blows were exchanged at different places of the pitch in a scrimmage between players of the two teams, supporters and stewards.

Among the many angry actors, Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli had to be overpowered by members of his staff not to fight.
