He played little last season but stood out at the Euro won by Squadra Azurra.

The Italian international of Brazilian origin, Emerson Palmieri was loaned one year to Olympique Lyonnais, the club formalized Thursday evening.

The 27-year-old is expected to be the new holder on the left flank of the defense, devoid of Melvin Bard (left for Nice) and, perhaps, Maxwell Cornet (pending departure).

His recruitment was a priority for new coach Peter Bosz.

The loan amount is 500,000 euros to which bonuses can be added for a maximum of 500,000 euros.

This agreement is accompanied by a priority purchase clause until the end of the transfer window 2022 for a player who has extended his contract for one year, until June 30, 2023 with the English club.

The Champions League and the Euro

Emerson Palmieri had transferred from AS Roma to Chelsea for twenty million euros in 2018. With Chelsea, he won the Champions League and the European Supercup in 2021, the Europa League in 2019 and the Coupe d ' England (2018).

Before coming to Europe, Emerson Palmieri dos Santos, who played in the youth teams with Brazil, was trained at Santos FC before being loaned to Palermo (Italy, 2014-2015) and then to AS Roma ( 2015-2016).

After obtaining Italian nationality in 2017, Emerson has 19 caps with the Italian team with which he has played since September 2018. He played four last Euro games, including the victorious final against England.

Emerson Palmieri should start with OL on Sunday against Clermont in the match of the third day of Ligue 1. He is the third signing of the Rhone club after defenders Damien Da Silva (Rennes) and Henrique Silva (Vasco de Gama) who have arrived available in June.

He is the third Italian player to play for Lyon after Fabio Grosso (2007-2009) and Mattia De Sciglio last season.
