Sebastian Rode, who was appointed the new captain by the new Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner, is being put to the next test of patience in his football career, which has been ravaged by injuries. On Thursday, the Frankfurt reported that Rode had been operated on on his left knee. Investigations had revealed a finding in the leading player that made an "arthroscopic intervention necessary". Rode is therefore "until further notice". How long exactly can, according to information from the club, "not yet be precisely forecast". Currently, Eintracht is apparently expecting a downtime of between one and two months for him.

“We have to wait and see what happens. With his ambition, Sebastian will do everything to get back to the team as soon as possible, ”said Glasner on Thursday at the weekly press conference before the home game on Saturday (3:30 pm in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on Sky) against Augsburg.

Meanwhile, Rode reported on Twitter: “For a few days knee problems have forced me to take a break.

Unfortunately, therefore, I cannot help the team in the coming weeks.

But as you know me, I remain optimistic and will work hard on my comeback again.

“To his chagrin, the 30-year-old has a long history of illness as far as his knee is concerned.

In 2009 he tore his cruciate ligament, and later cartilage damage occurred.

His joint kept causing him problems.

Now the next setback at Rode.

Hasebe or Hrustic as a replacement?

Due to the experience of Rode and his great fighter heart, Glasner can hardly do without his leading player. Makoto Hasebe or Ajdin Hrustic are possible replacements for Rode. The Swiss national player Djibril Sow should be placed in the sixth position. His teammate, the Austrian selection player Stefan Ilsanker, would rather fall into the category of emergency solution because he has weaknesses in the structure of the game.

The current workforce means that the Frankfurters want to strengthen themselves in the defensive midfield - with a fast and two-way six.

One candidate is the 20-year-old Frenchman Khéphren Thuram from OGC Nice.

However, his contract ends there on July 1, 2022, which means that Thuram could not be loaned by Eintracht under these conditions.

The fact is: “There won't be a new six against Augsburg,” Glasner clarified.

The transfer window is still open for just under two weeks.

It will be an intensive working time for sports director Markus Krösche.

Thematically on both the exit and the access side.

After all, the trainer and the sports director are on the same wavelength.

"Markus and I are very similar in our analysis," said Glasner.

Immediately ahead is Amin Younes' move to Saudi Arabia to Al-Shabab Riyadh. "He made it clear to me," reported the coach. "It is conceivable that an agreement will be reached in the coming days." Other players, however, have not yet approached him with requests to change. "In principle, every player who plays with heart and passion at Eintracht is very welcome," said Glasner.

As for the signing of a great center forward, the Brazilian Carlos Vinicius from Benfica Lisbon is a candidate. The Portuguese had loaned the 26-year-old to Tottenham Hotspur last season - as a back-up for England international Harry Kane. The Eintracht is apparently also aiming for a loan deal with a purchase option. Vinicius moved from Naples to Lisbon two years ago for 17 million euros, where he still has a contract until July 1, 2024.

The first two lost competitive games this season have also shown that there is a need for action on the position of right central defender.

The Brazilian Tuta and Ilsanker have not turned out to be the ideal cast because they are too prone to errors.

With their four right-backs Danny da Costa, Erik Durm, Timothy Chandler and Almamy Touré, the Hessians are also not ideally positioned.

Since Costa, who had returned from Mainz as a loan player, has so far not been able to justify Glasner's trust.

Durm, meanwhile, is waiting for the first chance under the new coach.

And Chandler was not even in the squad at 2: 5 in Dortmund.

His contract had been extended by the former sports director Fredi Bobic for another three years until July 1, 2025.
