In the first round of the European Tour competition in the Czech capital, the Swedish golf star was noted for three birdies and one eagle - and shares the lead of 67 strokes, five under par.

As if by chance, Henrik Stenson goes in the same ball as the European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington the first two holes.

- This is an attempt to show form and there is probably a few per mille chance to succeed in finding good lir and impress Padraig.

I think we are making progress.

Whether we are fast enough to build some confidence again remains to be seen.

But if that is the case, we will hopefully get the results later this autumn, Stenson says to Svensk Golf.

- We rarely give up in the first place.

But the fact that a handful of good results are needed these weeks is a must.

What it is feels impossible to know.

One week, one round, one stroke at a time is usually a good start.

According to Svensk Golf, this is the first time since 2017 that Stenson is in the lead after 18 holes.

This year, the 45-year-old has missed the "cut" in 11 of 16 competitions, but recently Stenson said that in the next four weeks he will give it a try to find the shape of the European Tour before the Irishman Padraig Harrington makes his choices.

Thursday's first round was in any case a big step in the right direction for Stenson, who has taken part in the prestigious duel between European and American men four times.
