After 20 years in the alpine elite, Patrik Järbyn ended his career in 2012. But now it's time to compete again.

At the beginning of September, he is one of the ten who travel to Spain to compete in the upcoming season of the Champions.

When the question came, there was no doubt about the former alpine star.

- I've been waiting for this for nine years.

If there's something I said I really want to be a part of, it's this.

It is a great honor and it will be great fun, says Patrik Järbyn.

"There is a lot to tell about"

But it is not just the competition that attracts with the program.

He looks forward to hearing the stories behind the others' careers and to being able to tell his own.

- You get to see another side of the athlete or woman that you never get when journalists set up the mic.

People know very little about the site and that's what is a little fun to tell about.

What you could not, received or had the chance to tell.

Are you going to reveal something that you think will surprise people?

- In fact, an entire program would be needed with me in such cases.

I have a lot of stuff, I have not gone the straight path.

There is a lot to tell about, he says.

Can be the third alpine winner

52-year-old Järbyn has lived in the US for the past 17 years and has therefore not been able to see much of the program.

But he has noticed that other skiers have done well.

- I have seen that we alpinists are good in most things and above all in perseverance.

We must be good at so many things, balance and strength while we must have perseverance and coordination.

I think we are high up among those who are most versatile trained.

Among the previous winners we find both Ingemar Stenmark and André Myhrer have won the competition.

- I'll do everything I can to hang on to them.

I compete for myself, of course, but alpine also hangs on my shoulder, says Järbyn.

"Will be in a secret training camp"

It has been nine years since Järbyn ended his career.

A career where he managed, among other things, a World Cup silver in Super G 1996 and both World Cup silver in the team competition and World Cup bronze in downhill at home in Åre 2007. But how is the form today?

- Not as good as nine years ago. I'm trying to stay in shape but I'm not really there yet. You have become over the years so it is not easier now than it was ten years ago, it is actually cruelly much more difficult. I'll be in a secret training camp here with some friends.
