Roma sign striker Abraham from Chelsea for $47 million

AS Roma announced on Tuesday the signing of striker Tammy Abraham from Chelsea on a five-year contract.

Roma confirmed his contract with Abraham for 40 million euros ($47.08 million), bringing the 23-year-old striker to Jose Mourinho's team in search of an opportunity to play as a main player.

Abraham finished last season as Chelsea's top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, but he has found himself out of accounts at the London club since coach Thomas Tuchel came to replace Frank Lampard in January.

“Tammy will always be welcomed back to Stamford Bridge as one of us,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskaya. “We have all enjoyed watching his development through our academy and in the first team, and we are grateful for his contribution to our success both at senior and youth level.

"We will never forget his many goals for Chelsea, and of course his role in winning the Champions League last season. I am sure all Chelsea fans will also wish Tammy a long and successful career."

The England international joins Roma after European champions Chelsea signed Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, in a record deal for the London club worth 97.5 million pounds

($134.46 million), according to British media.

Abraham's move to Roma follows the departure of veteran striker Eden Dzeko, who moved to Italian champions Inter on Saturday.

Roma will start their campaign in the 2021-2022 season on August 22 at home against Fiorentina.
