Around a year after his horror fall, the Dutch professional cyclist Fabio Jakobsen clinched another great victory.

The 24-year-old won the fourth stage of the Tour of Spain over 163.9 kilometers from El Burgo de Osma to Molina de Aragon on Tuesday ahead of the French Arnaud Demare and the Dane Magnus Cort Nielsen.

Jakobsen was pushed into the barrier by his compatriot Dylan Groenewegen on August 5, 2020 during the Tour of Poland at a speed of 80 km / h.

The sprinter was now in an artificial coma and had lost almost all of its teeth in the fall.

His face had to be sewn with 130 stitches.

It wasn't until April 2021 that it celebrated its comeback on the Tour of Turkey.

"A dream came true.

It's been a long way back.

I had to invest a lot, a lot of time, a lot of energy, ”said Jakobsen, who last won another stage on the Tour of Wallonia for the first time.

“But I am happy to be here.

It took a lot of time and effort from many people.

This is her victory too. ”At the Vuelta he also took on the green jersey of the best in points.

The red jersey of the overall winner continues to be worn by Estonian Rein Taaramäe, who however reached the finish with scratches after a fall a good two kilometers before the end.

However, due to the three-kilometer rule, he stays ahead.

The 34-year-old is 25 seconds ahead of Frenchman Kenny Elissonde.

The Slovenian Roglic follows 30 seconds back in third place.

As the best German, the Olympic tenth Maximilian Schachmann from the German Bora-hansgrohe team rolled over the finish line in 64th place with the main field.

In the overall standings, Schachmann's team-mate Ben Zwiehoff in 65th place, 6:31 minutes behind Taaramäe, is the highest-placed driver in the German Vuelta quintet, although the Essen driver was not among the top 100 when he arrived at the finish.

On the fifth stage on Wednesday over 184.4 kilometers from Tarancon to Albacete, the sprinters can again hope for a mass arrival. The Vuelta ends on September 5th with an individual time trial in Santiago de Compostela.
