Mikael Appelgren has a difficult year behind him where he missed the entire season, including the Olympics in Tokyo this summer.

He was forced to undergo three operations when both his shoulder and right knee were in trouble.

But the knee is not completely restored and on Tuesday, the 31-year-old announced, on a daily basis in the German Rhein-Neckar Löwen, that he had surgery again.

“Even though these are challenging times with mobility and pain, I feel relieved that everything went well (except finding shoes in my size).

I have reached the absolute bottom and from there it can only get better.

The next step on the journey to take me back has begun ", he writes on Instagram.

When the club team starts the season on September 9, it is again with Appelgren on the injury list.

But also the European Championships in Hungary and Slovakia in January next year may be in danger for the goalkeeper.

- Under normal circumstances, we talk for three to six months, but now it is a new operation, says the Swedish national handball team's doctor Daniel Jerrhag.

TT: What does the forecast look like for him?

- It is difficult to answer. It's a setback for him, of course. It is clear that he and I hoped that the problem would be solved. Then exactly what it looks like for the future is difficult to predict. I can not say more, it is patient safety and I have not talked to "The Apple" myself.
