In a video posted on Instagram on Sunday August 15, Roger Federer announced that he “

needs to be operated

” on his right knee and that he will be absent from the circuit for several months.

Will we see Roger Federer on a court as a professional tennis player?

Since his elimination in the quarterfinals of the last Wimbledon tournament against the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, the Swiss has not played again.

He notably missed the

Tokyo Olympics

and spoke of “

a setback with (his) knee

 ”.

And there is little chance of seeing the man with 20 Grand Slam coronations play again in 2021.

In a video posted on Instagram, the world No.9 explains that after consulting the doctors, he decided to undergo another operation on his right knee.

“

To feel better, I need an operation,

 ” he said.

This intervention will result in "

many months of absence

 ".

"I want to give myself a glimmer of hope to come back to the circuit"

In 2020, Roger Federer only played six matches, in January and February.

The Covid-19 pandemic interrupted the season, of course, but the Balois also underwent two operations - arthroscopies - which kept him away from high-level tennis until March 2021. These interventions allowed him to resume for a few months, but the Swiss therefore had to treat his right knee again.

“

I got injured during the grass season, it's not the best way to go forward. To get better in the long term, I was told that I needed a new operation. I decided to do it. I will be on crutches for weeks and be away from the circuit for months,

 ”said Federer.

The record holder for victories at Wimbledon (8 coronations), who celebrated his 40th birthday on August 8, wants to be "

realistic

 ".

“

I know how difficult it is, at my age, to have another operation.

I'll try,

 ”he said in his video.

“

It will be difficult but I want to be healthy.

I want to be able to run later, to be able to come back to the circuit later.

(...) I want to give myself a glimmer of hope to come back to the circuit, one way or another,

 ”he added.
