A new source of income for PSG

What we do know, however, is that in January 2020 PSG launched its digital token intended for its supporters, the PSG Fan Tokens.

The holders can in particular participate in surveys launched by the club on related subjects, such as "choose the message displayed on the wall of the locker room" of the players, or "vote for the goal of the season", specifies the club. in a statement released Thursday.

For the club, the objective of these tokens is twofold: "to develop a relationship with new fans in the world and generate income", recalls Marc Armstrong, director of sponsorship, quoted in the press release.

Initially offered at a price of two euros, the price of these tokens now varies freely according to supply and demand, like a price of a value on the stock exchange, or of a currency on the financial markets.

The price of the token has been flying since Thursday

Thus, at 11 a.m. Thursday (time of the presentation of Messi to the media), it was necessary to pay 34.66 euros to receive a token, according to the site coinmarketcap.

The insistent rumors about the arrival of Messi necessarily went hand in hand with a sharp rise in the price of the token: in early August, the token was still trading for around 10 euros.

The volumes traded have also increased enormously, to the tune of 536 million euros on Tuesday alone, the day of the official signing of the Argentine prodigy.

The asset is highly volatile: its price had exceeded 45 euros on April 26, two days before the semi-final first leg of the Champions League against Manchester City, before falling.

The token market capitalization exploded from 44 million euros on Tuesday to hover around 100 million euros on Thursday morning, according to data from coinmarketcap.
