National soccer player Leroy Sané is looking forward to a groundbreaking second year at Bayern Munich.

"I am certainly facing a very important season, but my first season at Manchester City, for example, was also a very big challenge," the 25-year-old told Sport Bild.

"My first year abroad, and that at a world-class club."

Before last season, after four years in Manchester, Sané moved to Bayern for around 50 million euros, but did not convince there as hoped.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic had recently stated that Sané had to take "the next step".

Sané scored 10 goals and prepared 12 goals in 44 competitive games in his first season in Munich.

"I don't want to be judged just by goals and assists," said Sané before the season started on Friday at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

"If I collect one or the other scorer point less, but instead decide really important games in the Bundesliga or Champions League and we win the corresponding titles for the club in the end, it can still be a very good season!"

Sané's contract in Munich runs up to and including June 30, 2025. Most recently, the winger was heavily criticized after the national team left the European Championship. "I know myself that I am a player who rarely has 'gray' in public, but often only black or white," said Sané. “None of us were satisfied with the early elimination from the European Championship. We failed against the English because of a really strong team that made it to the final, but that can't be an excuse for us. "
