As PSG prepares to formalize the arrival of Leo Messi, Real Madrid have announced in a press release their intention to file a complaint against La Liga president Javier Tebas and the investment fund CVC Capital Partners, to whom the he Spanish professional football institution sold 10% of its capital against 2.7 billion euros on Wednesday.

“The management committee of Real Madrid CF has unanimously decided to launch legal civil and criminal actions against the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, and against Javier de Jaime Guijarro, the head of the CVC investment fund, as well as against the CVC Capital Partners SICAV-FIS investment fund itself, ”the club said in a press release.

The purpose of this approach is to cancel and neutralize the possible agreements that could be adopted by the next general assembly of La Liga, which meets on August 12, in connection with the agreement between LaLiga and the CVC fund.

Real and Barça united against CVC

On Wednesday, the organizer of the Spanish championship announced an agreement in principle for the sale of 10% of its capital to the CVC investment fund in exchange for 2.7 billion euros, a financial contribution fallen from the sky for clubs shaken by the pandemic. But an agreement criticized the next day by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, the two giants of Spanish football, who believe that this agreement harms the clubs.

"This agreement was made without the participation of Real Madrid and without their knowledge, and LaLiga allowed for the first time today (Thursday) that we have limited access to the terms of the agreement", explains the Madrid club in a press release.

"This opportunistic fund is the same as the one that tried unsuccessfully (to tie) similar agreements with the Italian and German leagues," continues Real.

For its part, FC Barcelona expressed its "surprise", judging that the agreement had "not been sufficiently concerted with the clubs (owners of TV rights)".
