The Korea Anti-Doping Agency KADA is reviewing the detection of a banned substance in one of the Doosan Bears players in professional baseball.

This player explained that a prohibited substance was detected in a doping test conducted by KADA on professional baseball players during the KBO League regular season, and he attended a hearing in July and explained, "I have never taken a banned substance."

KADA is also considering 'a situation where prohibited substances enter the body in daily life'.

KADA is judging the athlete in accordance with the procedures established by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

UFC fighter Rob Fonte, who was sanctioned by the U.S. Anti-Doping Commission after the same ingredient was detected in a doping test, said that the athlete "never took prohibited substances" also presented examples.

The banned substance detected in samples of professional baseball players is meclofenoxate, and WADA has designated meclofenoxate as a banned substance from January 1, 2021.

KADA also classified meclophenoxate as a 'drug permitted outside competition, but prohibited during competition'.

It is known that this ingredient does not have a direct effect on performance improvement and can be detected in the body when eating general food or using cosmetics.

The athlete claimed, "I have never taken any drugs containing prohibited substances."

The KADA Sanctions Committee notifies the players and the club of the results after reviewing the hearing, and players must decide whether to appeal within three weeks of receiving the results of the Sanctions Committee.
