The new national coach, Hansi Flick, has confirmed a collaboration with veteran coach Hermann Gerland and wants to incorporate this into his team in the future.

“Hermann Gerland has signaled his readiness.

We have to talk in detail about which task he can fulfill.

I've known Hermann for a long time now, ”said the 56-year-old Flick on Tuesday at his presentation in Frankfurt am Main about Gerland, who assisted the new national coach at FC Bayern.

It is probably about an activity in the scouting area.

“He's one of the most honest people I've met.

And I think it is also good for us as an association, ”emphasized Flick.

At his first press conference, the new national coach presented his entire team of coaches with whom he would like to tackle his work on the way to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Gerland was the only staff member who was not there himself.

The 67-year-old Gerland had already confirmed conversations with Flick in several media.

The departure of the previous DFB chief scout Thomas Schneider had only become public last week.

Telephone call with Löw

Flick also had a detailed exchange with his predecessor Joachim Löw around his assumption of office.

“Of course we telephoned for a long time.

There will certainly be an opportunity for us to exchange ideas again, over a meal or an espresso, ”said the 56-year-old at his introduction.

Löw was the head coach of the DFB-Elf from 2006 to 2021, and Flick was a co-coach until the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“He will now take a deep breath, and he deserves this time.

Then we will be in contact again and have a nice dinner, ”said Flick about his long-time companion.

The former Bayern coach has signed a contract with the DFB until the European Championship at home in 2024.

In terms of personnel, Flick can continue to rely on the veterans Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller. When asked whether there had been any further announcements of this kind after Toni Kroos' resignation, the national coach replied: "Clearly no."
