In order for an active member to be selected for the Olympics, the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) has a requirement that the athletes must show that they can compete for a place among the top eight.

It has caused harsh criticism from some athletes and leaders, mainly in athletics and swimming.

Can do it differently

Despite this, SOK has chosen to stick to it, even though before this Olympics they chose to be more generous with their so-called future criteria, which means that athletes can be selected to watch and learn before future Olympics.

But now SOK's operations manager Peter Reinebo admits that they can do things differently before the future Olympics.

- There are things to do in terms of communication, I think.

We have done a little different in different sports, depending on how many it is about how many coaches have been involved, how many active people have had the opportunity to be selected.

And it is based on the fact that all active and leaders who are possible for an Olympics have complete information, he says to SVT, and continues:

- My picture is that it has not really been like that, so there is definitely a potential for improvement already before the Winter Olympics.

"Need to have a verbal communication"

Reinebo says that they have already started with this improvement work, and that it will very soon be clear what is required to be selected for the Summer Olympics in Paris 2024.

- We need to set the selection levels for the various sports and the schedule for selection as early as next year.

Then communication to all stakeholders is very important.

And I know that it has not been one hundred percent, and we must take it on together with the relevant unions.

It may not be enough to post it on our website, but we need to have a verbal communication - not only those we normally work with in the top and talent program but also the others.

- And we will make sure that this is the case.
