Barcelona fans gather in front of Messi's house to express their grief

A number of Barcelona fans gathered outside the house of Argentine striker Lionel Messi today, Monday, hoping to see the club's best players of all time, and expressed their sadness at his departure from the Camp Nou after a 21-year association.

On Sunday, Messi announced his departure from the Catalan club after negotiations to renew the contract failed, and he admitted that he was in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

"I am very saddened by the departure of a player I always encouraged and who is a role model for me. This is very painful for me," said one of the attendees, Christian Garcia, while wearing Barcelona's No. 10 jersey.

"I don't think the club has done enough to ensure his continuation," said Gonzalo Moreno, who supports Barcelona and the Argentina national team, to which Messi also belongs.

Another fan said: "I don't want him to sign for PSG, but I know he will."

Messi, 34, did not reveal his immediate plans, but after L'Equipe reported on Friday that he was on his way to join Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentine confirmed that his going to the French capital "is a possibility".

But he confirmed that at the present time he had not yet agreed to join any club and had not decided yet, stressing that he thought he would be happy at Camp Nou after agreeing to a five-year contract that includes a 50 percent salary cut before the deal collapsed last week.
