Swedish women's national football team

The Swedish team flew through this Olympic tournament.

3-0 in the premiere against the USA was followed by victories against Australia (4-2) and New Zealand (2-0).

One in the group and then we took Japan in the quarterfinals (3-1) and Australia in the semifinals (1-0) by just the speed.

An undefeated and strongly favorite tipped Blue Yellow would only bring one thing from the final from Canada.

But what was not allowed to happen, it happened.

Sweden fell on penalties and received an Olympic silver as consolation.

But we remember a straight-backed, brave and fantastically skilled Swedish national football team who was the best team in the tournament, but who fell on the finish line in a final match they deserved to win.

The guys discus

No matter how much he tried to tone down expectations before the Olympics, there was only one thing that mattered to Daniel Ståhl in Tokyo.

OS Gold.

And when the discus competitions were over, he stood there with the gold medal, along with his friend Simon Pettersson, wearing the silver medal.

Daniel Ståhl became Sweden's fourth athlete ever to win Olympic gold.

Classic Swedish sports history was written when Ståhl and Pettersson celebrated and cheered at the arena.

Scenes we will soon forget.

The gold for the Swedish jumping team

Peder Fredricson (All in), Malin Baryard-Johnsson (Indiana) and Henrik von Eckermann (King Edward) all made it to the finals in the individual jumping competition.

There were the three out of six who went to jump for the medals.

But in the end, it was "only" silver for Peder Fredricson.

Therefore, it tasted extra good when they got revenge a few days later, Saturday, August 7, in the team competition.

Together, they secured Swedish Olympic gold, the first in the branch since 1924. This after a dramatic competition that was decided in the jump-off between Sweden and the USA and where Peder Fredricson rode it home in the last round.

Armand Duplantis show

One of the absolute biggest pre-favorites in the athletics disciplines, Armand Duplantis, never really made any Swede worried in the pole vault final.

"Mondo" was flawless up to 6.02, then it was clear that the gold was at home for the 21-year-old.

He gave up on the stands, celebrated with mom and dad, before jumping to break his own world record.

Three attempts at 6.19.

The first was so close that when he hit the carpet he could not believe his eyes that the bar fell, because he himself was sure that he was over.

But it was not a world record that day for Armand Duplantis, but an Olympic gold.

A gold that made him the fifth Swedish athlete to win Olympic gold for Sweden ever.

Sarah Sjöström's supercomeback

An elbow fracture in February seemed to destroy Sarah Sjöström's Olympics.

But the Swedish superstar miraculously managed to get in shape for the championship.

And once there, she swam home silver to Sweden in 50 meters freestyle.

- It's probably my biggest achievement.

Crazy.

I can not find words for how tough it has been to find the strength again, Sjöström told Discovery.

Swedish sailing successes

Two of Sweden's nine medals came in the sailing.

Josefin Olsson was the first out, on August 1, to take home the silver in the sailing class laser radial.

Then Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergström followed up on 4 August by securing the silver medal in the men's 470 sailing.
