The head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, announced the official end of the Olympics at the closing ceremony of the Games, which takes place at the National Stadium in the capital of Japan.
The Tokyo Games were held from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
At the tournament, 339 sets of medals were played in 33 sports.
The Russian national team took fifth place in the medal standings.
Domestic athletes have won 20 gold, 28 silver and 23 bronze medals.
Earlier, Bach handed over the Olympic flag to Paris, where the 2024 Games will take place.
