As an Olympic reporter in Tokyo you are confronted again with one of the big questions from your school days: Where is the coolest seat on the bus?

Back then, when line 21 meandered from the village to the city, the answer was clear: as far back as possible.

And today?

It happens now and then in these days in Tokyo that you have one of the many coaches of the Olympic shuttle system to yourself.

They are only used to drive journalists back and forth between the arenas, halls and hotels.

But because there aren't that many who want to drive an hour to the Ariake Shooting Range, just as an example, you sometimes get in and see: everything is free.

Do not speak!

Sure, there is still the bus driver at the very front, but you shouldn't actually speak to him.

It is even written on warning labels on some buses.

Which is a bit annoying in this case, because he would be the expert when it comes to the coolest seat.

In the search for the answer you have to go further without him - and first of all follow your personal needs. If you want to catch up on some sleep - and actually you always want to catch up on some sleep at the Olympics - you should choose a seat where none of the brackets for the curtains are mounted. Otherwise you can't nestle your head against the window pane so well. Another, underestimated trick: adjust the backrest and rest your head in the small gap that is created between your own seat and the adjacent seat. Only in one row does it not work so well: in the last one.

And so, unlike in the past on the school bus, there is a lot to be said for a seat in one of the front rows.

There the wifi supposedly works more reliably and there you can rush off the bus faster if the time to change at the media bus station is again short.

Now that after more than 14 days in Tokyo you don't just have to move around in the Olympic bubble, you could of course get on a public bus from time to time and see which seat the Japanese think is the coolest.

But then you don't do it.

Because of the virus.

And the wifi.
