The 13th competition day turned out to be quite successful for Russian athletes.

They won five medals, two of them are gold.

Freestyle wrestler Zaur Uguyev won the competition in the category up to 57 kg, and boxer Albert Batyrgaziev excelled in the lightest weight category.

The third highest award for the country could have been brought by the high jumper Angelica Sidorova, but she offensively lost to the representative of the United States, Katie Nadjott.

Finally, two bronzes were also won by a wrestler and a boxer - Artur Naifonov and Gleb Bakshi, respectively.

Separately, it is worth noting the incredible comeback of the Russian men's volleyball team, which beat the reigning Olympic champions from Brazil in the semifinals.

Domestic "beach sportsmen" Vyacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovsky made their way to the final.

Punishment of Mizinov and Lasitskene problems

In addition to Sidorova, the walker Vasily Mizinov claimed for medals in athletics on Thursday.

The reigning vice-champion of the world could well have climbed the podium in the 20 km race, but he was prevented by the judges.

In the course of the first third of the distance, the Russian did not force the event, however, closer to the equator he led the pursuit group and began to rapidly close the gap with the leaders, who began to get tired.

The domestic athlete tried to hide behind the backs of the rivals in the group, but the referee could no longer stop it.

The third warning meant for him the end of the fight for awards.

Mizinov went to the parking lot for two minutes, and after his return he was disqualified.

As a result, the victory was won by the Italian Massimo Stano, followed by two Japanese - Koki Ikeda and Toshikazu Yamanishi.

To the walker's credit, after the end of the competition, he did not blame the judges for the failure.

“I am the only one to blame for what happened, and there is no point in challenging the decision of the arbitrators.

The day was extremely difficult for the high jumper Maria Lasitskene, although in her form she is one of the main contenders for victory.

The qualifying round almost ended in failure for her.

The three-time champion of the planet confidently took one height after another, until she reached the 1.95 m mark. Here, the favorite began to have difficulties.

In the first attempt, she came close to being successful, but she hit the bar.

At that moment, it became really anxious for her.

Fortunately, from the third time Maria still coped with the task and qualified for the final along with thirteen rivals, including the Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh.

Also on Thursday, the decathlon competition ended.

It was initially difficult for Ilya Shkurenev to count on medals, because after the first day he was only in 11th place.

In the final race, he was more than four seconds ahead of his opponent and made his way to the semifinals, where tomorrow he will face off against the Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland.

And the two-time Olympic medalist in the team sprint Daria Shmeleva did not succeed in the keirin discipline. The Russian woman with the third time made her way to the semifinals, but there she was only 0.005 seconds behind the Canadian Lorient Genest and was forced to fight for places from 7th to 12th. In the consolation race, the athlete showed her best result that day (11.241), but could not rise above the tenth line.

Once again, the Russian kayakers were left without medals. In single competitions at a distance of 200 meters, the country was represented by two athletes at once. But if Olesya Romasenko managed to qualify for the main final, then Irina Andreeva twice came to the finish line penultimate - first in the selection, and then in the consolation race. It was also difficult for her compatriot to prove herself in competition with strong competitors. As a result, the seventh place and more than 1.8 seconds behind the winner Nevin Harrison.

In men, at a similar distance, Evgeny Lukantsov failed to impose competition on the leaders. This time, the two-time bronze medalist of the planetary championship was not as successful and showed the fifth time in qualification, proceeding to the final B. But it was not possible to rehabilitate there either - only the fourth time. In turn, Olga Chernigovskaya finished last in her semifinals at 500 meters, and Roman Anoshkin and Maxim Spesivtsev managed to finish on a positive note in the doubles tournament at a distance of 1000 meters. In the consolation race, they were the first, ahead of the Slovaks and Italians.

Yulia Timoshinina was also unable to join the fight for awards.

She quite confidently overcame the barrier of the semifinals in jumping from a 10-meter platform, but she frankly failed in the battle for medals.

She never managed to overcome the bar of 65 points per jump, while the leaders gained almost a third more.

As a result, only 263.00 points and the penultimate, 11th place with a lag of 203.2 points from the champion - Chinese woman Hongchan Quan.

The Russians were left without medals in open water swimming.

Kirill Abrosimov competed at a distance of 10 kilometers and stayed in the top ten for most of the swim.

But towards the end of the strength, the domestic athlete began to leave, as a result of which he fell back to the 19th line.

His lag behind the newly minted Olympic champion Florian Wellbrock from Germany was just under six minutes.

But if in water sports the Russians frankly did not go, then in others everything was much more optimistic.

In team sports, domestic athletes performed with varying success. The Russian national volleyball team for the first time since 2012 made it to the decisive round of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Tuomas Sammelvuo's wards defeated the Brazilians in the semifinals with a score of 3: 1, thereby taking revenge from them for the defeat in Rio de Janeiro. Then the teams met at the same stage, but the Latin Americans turned out to be stronger - 3: 0. In the final, the Russians will play with the French, who left no chance for the Argentines.

Shortly before the end of the first half, the Russians beat the Americans with a score of 7: 4, but even before the break allowed them to reduce the gap to a minimum, and before the final quarter they were already losing with a difference of two goals. It was not possible to return the initiative. The Stars and Stripes took the final segment with a two-fold advantage, and Madeleine Musselman, who became the top scorer of the meeting with five goals, scored half of the four accurate shots. The national team lost 11:15 and will compete for bronze with Hungary.

The finalists in men's basketball were also determined. The USA national team lost the first quarter to the Australian team, but managed to quickly close the gap, and in the third ten minutes they defeated the opponent by more than a threefold difference (32:10). After that, it remained only to maintain the advantage, which was easily managed by the star wards of Gregg Popovich. Brooklyn forward Kevin Durant again became the most productive player with a collection of 23 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two interceptions and a block shot - 97:78.

The second finalist of the tournament was France, which beat Slovenia in a bitter struggle - 90:89. The opponents left for the long break with a slight advantage of Alexander Sekulich's wards. However, in the second part of the meeting, the opponent still looked more powerful and snatched the victory.
