BMX cyclist Connor Fields suffered a brain haemorrhage when he crashed in the semifinals last Friday.

The gold medalist from Rio 2016 was second in his heat when his front wheel collided with a driver's rear wheel - which led to him losing control and falling in a nasty crash.

Now, less than a week later, positive news is coming.

Can not stand up for long

Jonathan Finnoff, chief physician at the US Olympic and Paralympic Federation, announced on Thursday night that Fields will have to leave the hospital in Tokyo on Thursday, to begin his rehabilitation at home in Henderson, USA.

Shortly after the news, Fields wrote a message on Twitter.

"I'm back.

Type.

I can still only get up for five to ten minutes at a time, but we're working on it! ”
