“Rostov” has officially decided on the issue of replacement Valery Karpin as head coach of the team.

According to the press service of the club, the legendary Yuri Semin will replace the newly minted coach of the Russian national football team.

The contract is calculated until the end of the 2022/23 season, the helmsman's salary was not disclosed.

"Football club" Rostov "has concluded an agreement with the famous Russian specialist Yuri Semin for a period of two years ... We welcome Yuri Pavlovich to our club and wish him successful work at the helm of the team!"

- said in the official statement of the club.

Thus, just two days after Karpin's resignation, “Rostov” solved the most important personnel issue and announced the name of the new mentor.

During this time, the former head coach of the yellow-blue Miodrag Bozovic, the helmsman of the Voronezh Fakel Oleg Vasilenko, and even the Icelander Heimir Hallgrimsson, who headed the national team of his country for almost five years, appeared among potential candidates for the position.

Moreover, the specialist himself openly expressed his interest in working with the Russian team.

“I don’t know how true this information is, but, of course, Rostov is an interesting club for me. I am familiar with the club, Icelandic footballers played there. I like the city, the club itself, I know some people from the management, and they are good people. It would be interesting for me, but I do not know if I am really a contender for the post of head coach. Nobody contacted me, but Rostov probably knows that my contract with Al-Arabi has ended and I am available, "RB-Sport quotes Hallgrimsson.

As a result, the choice was made in favor of Semin, who actually spent the last year outside of football. Yes, sometimes the mentor acted as an expert on TV channels, and also served as an advisor to Evgeny Savin at the Krasava club, but he has not coached at a professional level since leaving Lokomotiv. On May 31, 2020, his agreement with the railroad workers expired, which the former leaders of the club decided not to renew. Then it caused a huge scandal, which resulted in a protracted conflict between the fans and the general director Vasily Kiknadze.

However, this does not negate the fact that Semin remains one of the most influential and titled Russian coaches in history. During his career, he won the Russian championship three times, won the Cup six times and the country's Super Cup three times. Moreover, with age, he did not lose his shape, which is confirmed by his results in recent years. Under his leadership, Lokomotiv strengthened its status as the main rival of Zenit in the struggle for the RPL gold medals and finished below second place only once. It happened in the 2016/17 season - the first after his return to the railway camp. Then the red-greens had the fifth most expensive squad (€ 94.15) among the championship participants and did not have sufficient reserves to compete with Petersburgers and CSKA. However, Yuri Pavlovich did not remain without a trophy, immediately taking the Cup.

Subsequently, Lokomotiv only became stronger, and its current success is largely related to the work of Semin.

It was he, in cooperation with ex-president of the club Roman Herkus, who were able to collect and develop the team that later won the RPL, reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League and represented the country in the Champions League for three years in a row.

In almost unchanged form, this line-up went to Marko Nikolic, who took silver and bronze of the national championship with him.

As for Rostov, it is already partly known who will help Semin in his new job.

The master's coaching staff will include Yuri Baturenko, who helped him earlier at Lokomotiv.

Head coach Vitaly Kafanov, who previously assisted Kurban Berdyev and Valery Karpin, will continue to work.

Moreover, for him the appointment of the ex-mentor of railroad workers came as a surprise.

“I just left the training, I haven’t heard such information.

Nobody has told me anything yet.

Let's see what will happen ", - quotes Kafanov" Sport-Express ".

At the same time, the football community generally reacted positively to Semin's invitation to the post of head coach of Rostov.

For the majority, this appointment aroused enthusiasm, and the former mentor of the team Igor Gamula expressed the opinion that, together with him, the yellow-blues would be guided by getting into the European cups.

“I am delighted with his appointment to Rostov.

His joining the team should add positive emotions to the players.

I think that Yuri Pavlovich will set the highest goals for the players - the team will fight for the European cups.

I have a good attitude towards Syomin.

Probably, his candidacy was one of the best for Rostov.

I hope that he will succeed, ”Gamula said.

In turn, the former president of Lokomotiv, Nikolai Naumov, is confident that Semin will not seriously reshape the roster of Rostov and make major changes to the tactical pattern. According to him, the arrival of a mentor, first of all, will positively affect the emotional state of the players, who started this season unsuccessfully. In the first two rounds, Rostov lost to Dynamo and Zenit with a total goal difference of 2: 6.

“Karpin created this team, a certain style of play of“ Rostov ”, but in the last two games the guys didn’t have eyes.

Semin will undoubtedly strengthen the team with spirit and charge for the game.

He knows how to do this well, Yuri Pavlovich will not break anything right away, he will use what Karpin has developed, adding his own.

“Rostov” will shake up and show what he is capable of.

Semin is an energetic, I can't imagine a more energetic person at his age.

He does not sit still.

I have no doubt that Semin has enough physical and emotional strength for coaching work, "- quotes Naumov's words" Championship ".

But another former boss of Semin is not so confident in his abilities.

According to the ex-president of Lokomotiv Olga Smorodskaya, the specialist will not succeed in a new place.

“Semin will not succeed in Rostov. Everything has its time, but its time has already passed, ”said Smorodskaya.
