Gesa Krause missed the longed-for medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo over the 3000 meter obstacle.

One day after her 29th birthday, Krause ran after a courageous finish in 9: 14.00 minutes to fifth place, but had no chance in the fight for a podium place and remained like in 2012 in London (seventh) and 2016 in Rio ( Sixth) without precious metal.

Peruth Chemutai from Uganda won the Olympic gold medal in 9: 01.45 minutes ahead of Courtney Frerichs from the USA. Hyvin Kiyeng from Kenya secured bronze on Wednesday. The other two German starters Elena Burkard (Dornstetten) and Lea Meyer (Löningen) did not make it to the obstacle final.
