The results of the election to select athletes for the IOC = International Olympic Committee were announced on the 4th, and Yuki Ota, a silver medalist for fencing at the Beijing Olympics, was elected for the first time as a Japanese.

The IOC's Athletes Committee is responsible for reflecting the opinions of athletes in the management of the Games, and usually serves a term of eight years.

In this election, 30 people from 19 competitions in 30 countries were running for the 4 people's re-election quota.

Of these, from Japan, Yuki Ota, who won the silver medal in the Beijing tournament as an individual in the fencing men's foil and in the group at the London tournament, was running for the race.



Voting was from the 13th to the 3rd of last month, and a total of 6825 votes were cast by directly voting at 11 polling stations such as the match venue for all athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics. ..

The IOC announced the voting results on the 4th, and Mr. Ota won 1616 votes, which is the 4th place overall, and was the first Japanese to be elected as an athlete committee member.



This election was held one year later due to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, so the term of office is seven years until the 2028 Los Angeles Games.



The athlete committee also serves as an IOC member, and the current Japanese IOC member is the third member following the chairman of the International Gymnastics Federation, Morinari Watanabe, and the chairman of the JOC = Japanese Olympic Committee, Yasuhiro Yamashita.
