Eleventh day of decision of the Olympic Games, seventh gold medal for Germany: Malaika Mihambo jumped exactly 7.00 meters in the last attempt on Tuesday, which was enough to win the Olympic Games.

The German team took silver in sailing, bronze went to the Canadian two-man, but disappointments in team sports.

Athletics:

The world champion Malaika Mihambo managed a golden point landing in the long jump thriller in Tokyo. In the Olympic final, the 27-year-old from the LG Kurpfalz triumphed in the last attempt with 7.00 meters. Silver won the four-time world champion and London Olympic champion Brittney Reese from the USA with 6.97 meters ahead of the world’s best of the year Ese Brume from Nigeria.

Warholm had already broken the ancient world record at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo on July 1st. In his home game at Bislett Stadium, he won in 46.70 seconds. The world and European champion was eight hundredths of a second below the almost 29-year-old time of American Kevin Young at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Sebastian Brendel and Olympic debutant Tim Hecker won the first medal for the German canoeists in the Canadian two-man bronze medal.

For the duo from Potsdam and Berlin it was not enough to win the gold they had hoped for over the 1000 meter distance.

On the Sea Forest Waterway, 33-year-old Brendel and his new partner Hecker (23) had to admit defeat to the Cubans Sergey Torres Madrigal / Fernando Dayan Jorge Enriquez and the Chinese world champions Liu Hao and Zhen Pengfei.

The final of the twelve best jumpers will take place on the same day at 3 p.m. local time (8 a.m. CEST in the FAZ live ticker for the Olympic Games). The best of the semifinals was the Chinese Xie Siyi, who reached 543.45 points. Record European champion Patrick Hausding was surprisingly eliminated in the preliminary battle on Monday.
