It is easy to forget that Duplantis is not older than 21 years.

He managed the favorite without trembling in the slightest and when his biggest victory was over, he had plenty of mental and physical energy left to bet on world records and was extremely close to success.

Long wait

It feels like there has been a long wait for his first world title.

Another proof that one so easily forgets his young age.

He was only 18 when he got the cracking breakthrough at the European Championships in Berlin 2018. After silver at the World Cup in Doha 2019, the development took new momentum last year.

Duplantis flew over his first world records but the pandemic meant he had to wait until this year for the chance to become Olympic champion.

Now he has emphatically shown that the Mondo era is here!

Little fifteen year old

I remember when I first saw him jump.

In Finnkampen 2015 - a little fifteen-year-old boy who won the youth WC the same summer and who now, despite his almost thin physique, became the best Swede at 5.17.

Six years later and a little over a meter higher, it is only to thank big brother Andreas for recommending the Swedish national team to Armand when it was time for the Swedish-American to choose.

And a compliment to the leaders who "recruited" Andreas to blue-yellow and made his junior championship such a positive experience that Mondo chose the same path.

A win-win situation where Duplantis has escaped tough American competition competitions, gained a base in Uppsala closer to the competitions in Europe and with training facilities that were available during the pandemic.

In a small country with a great interest in athletics, he has been an exclusive gem to cherish.

Loyal performances

The balance between the superstar's needs and the wishes of Swedish athletics has also been handled well.

Mondo has loyally made his appearances for the club Uppsala IF and the national team.

And now he has spread Olympic gold over Swedish athletics!

Left to win is the World Cup.

The chance comes next year.

If it goes the way, a new phase will come when titles will be defended - not conquered.

The Mondo era has just begun.

Duplantis dominates its branch and moves boundaries.

When the closing date is to be made, he may well have collected so many titles and set such records that he has reached his goal of becoming the foremost pole vaulter in history.
