The Korean women's handball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Olympics for the first time in 9 years.



Our national team, led by Kang Jae-won, drew 31-31 with Angola in the 5th match of Group A of the women's handball group at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.



The equalizer was scored 11 seconds before the end of the game.



With 1 win, 1 draw and 3 losses, Korea Republic will advance to the quarterfinals with 4th place in Group A, and will face off against Sweden, 1st place in Group B, on the 4th to advance to the quarterfinals.



In the Norwegian-Japan match that started at 9:30 p.m. after the victory, our national team had to draw or Japan to advance to the quarterfinals.



Norway's victory over Japan 37-25 confirmed Korea's progress to the quarterfinals.



In the women's handball event in Korea, she won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 London Olympics, but was eliminated in the group stage in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.



This is the first time in 9 years that Korean women's handball has reached the quarterfinals of the Olympics since the 2012 London Games.



The women's handball quarterfinals of this tournament will be played by Korea-Sweden, France-Netherlands, Norway-Hungary and Montenegro-Russia Olympic Committee.
