Arabs equal the outcome of “Athens 2004” before the end of “Tokyo 2020”

Arab athletes equaled the best gold score in the history of their participation in the Summer Olympics, after Sofiane El-Baqali, Morocco, was awarded the 3000m steeplechase title, yesterday, six days before the conclusion of the Tokyo Games.

The best gold score for the Arabs was in Athens 2004, when they won four golds, two silvers, and four bronzes.

So far, Tunisian swimmer Ayoub El Hefnawi, in the 400m freestyle, has crowned Qatari Faris Hassouna, in weightlifting, and Moataz Barshim, in the high jump, in addition to Al-Baqali.

Al-Baqali also awarded Morocco its first gold since 2004, after recording 8:08.90 minutes in front of the Ethiopian Lamesha Girma, the silver (8:10.38 d), while Kenyan Benjamin Keegan won the bronze medal (8:11.4 d).
