The German team started the ninth day of the decision at the Olympic Games in Tokyo with a bronze medal for swimmer Florian Wellbrock.

The German hockey men made it to the semi-finals, long jumper Malaika Mihambo and obstacle runner Gesa Krause made it to the final.

Swimming:

Double world champion Florian Wellbrock won the first men's medal for a German pool swimmer at the Olympic Games in over two decades. The 23-year-old hit the 1500 meter freestyle in the victory of the 800 meter Olympic champion Robert Finke from the USA after 14: 40.91 minutes in third and secured bronze. The World Cup runner-up Michailo Romantschuk from Ukraine took silver.

Swimming II:

The American medley relay around star swimmer Caeleb Dressel swam in world record time to win the Olympic Games over 4 x 100 meters. The quartet with Dressel, Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew and Zach Apple hit after 3: 26.78 minutes. That was clearly faster than the US quartet around Michael Phelps in the summer of 2009, which swam 3: 27.28 minutes at the time. It was the sixth world record in cymbal competitions in Tokyo. Before that, Dressel had already won the 50 meter freestyle. The 24-year-old won in 21.07 seconds, setting an Olympic record.

Athletics:

Germany's gold hope Malaika Mihambo jumped to the seven-meter mark and made it to the Olympic final.

The 2019 world champion qualified in the Olympic Stadium with a season best of 6.98 meters in the third attempt for the medal fights.

Only the Serbian Ivana Spanovic (7.00) was better on Sunday.

For Maryse Luzolo from LV Königstein (6.54), however, it was not enough for the final on Tuesday (03.50 a.m. / CEST).

Athletics II:

After arriving late, obstacle runner Gesa Krause has easily reached the Olympic final over the 3000 meters.

The two-time World Cup third and European champion qualified second in her preliminary run in 9: 19.62 minutes.

"I wanted to run in a controlled manner, that worked," said Krause with satisfaction on ZDF.

Equestrian sport:

The German eventing team has clearly fallen behind in the cross-country race in the battle for medals. After mistakes by Sandra Auffarth from Ganderkesee with Viamant and Michael Jung from Horb with Chipmunk, the trio slipped from second to sixth on Sunday. In the individual, Jung fell to tenth place before the final competition on Monday (10 a.m.). Second is Julia Krajewski from Warendorf with Amande behind the Briton Oliver Townend with Ballaghmor Class. The German team then protested. The reason is the triggering of a safety system during the ride by Jung, which was punished with eleven penalty points.

Hockey:

The German hockey men have reached the Olympic semifinals. The team of national coach Kais al Saadi prevailed 3-1 (1-0) against Olympic champion Argentina at the start of the knockout round on Sunday morning (local time) at more than 30 degrees in the Oi Hockey Stadium. The German goals were scored by Lukas Windfeder (19th minute / 48th minute) and Timm Herzbruch (40th) each by penalty corner.
