In the seventh race in Tokyo Bay, Zegers and Berkhout crossed the finish line as sixteenth of the 21 couples, after which they took their revenge in the second race of the day with a sixth place.

In the rankings, the Dutch sailors with an eleventh place are still in the middle bracket.

The British duo Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre leads and has Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Ogar as main competitors.

The ninth and tenth race in the 470 class will follow on Monday, followed by the closing medal race on Tuesday.

The forty-year-old Berkhout is there for the third time at the Olympic Games.

She won silver with Marcelien de Koning in 2008 and bronze with Lisa Westerhof four years later.

Zegers (29) finished fourth five years ago with Anneloes van Veen.

So far only Kiran Badloe took a Dutch medal on the water in sailing.

For the time being, Marit Bouwmeester (Laser Radial) and Nicholas Heiner (Finn) are also promising.
