The German Alexander Zverev, 5th player in the world, won the tennis tournament at the Tokyo Olympics by beating the Russian Karen Khachanov in the final (6-3, 6-1).

Falling world number one Novak Djokovic in the previous round, Zverev offered the fourth gold medal to the German delegation.

The German, who fell to world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, eclipsed Russia's Karen Khachanov in two short sets (6-3, 6-1) in the final to claim his first Olympic singles title.

This is the fourth gold medal for the German delegation.

The day before, the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta had seized the bronze after his victory in the small final against Djokovic.
