From our special correspondent in Tokyo,

The sprint has definitely changed era, this August 1, 2021 in Tokyo, after the prosperous years of Usain Bolt.

Orphaned by the Jamaican, the Olympic 100 meters may not have found a new hero.

But he has a new champion: Lamont Marcell Jacobs.

He was the fastest in the Final, in 9 seconds 80. He beat Fred Kerley (United States) and André De Grasse (Canada).

South African Akani Simbine finished fourth, a little better than the final of the Rio Games (5th).

Nigerian Enoch Adegoke was injured and did not go to the end.

First sacred European since 1992

After a false start which led to Zharnel Hughes (Great Britain) being disqualified, Lamont Marcell Jacobs settled the race, beating the odds.

The main feat of arms of the 26-year-old sprinter, born in the United States, was indeed a European indoor champion title over 60 meters ...

The Italian thus becomes the first European to win over the distance queen of the Olympic Games, since the Briton Linford Christie in 1992.
