Two Georgian judo athletes, who both won silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, have been deported from Tokyo for violating competition rules.

The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee announced on the 31st of last month that an official of the Games had left the Athletes' Village for tourism purposes and had their AD card deprived.

This is the first time AD deprivation has occurred since the start of this tournament.

The organizing committee did not reveal who the AD card cancellers were, but the Georgia Olympic Committee admitted on the 1st that their country's men's silver medalists in judo, Baza Margvelashvili and Rasha Shavdatuashvili, had their AD cards stripped.

The two players wore Georgia uniforms on the night of the 27th of last month after the match, taking pictures with several people around Tokyo Tower was released to the local media.

The Georgia Olympic Committee explained, "The two left the Athletes' Village to meet their acquaintances living in Japan."

"They just wanted to get some fresh air after a tough game," he said.

Margvelashvili and Shavdatuashvili coincidentally beat Ahn Paul and Ahn Chang-rim of the Korean national team in the semifinals, respectively.

Both were defeated by a Japanese player and won a silver medal around the neck.

The 'Playbook', which summarizes the code of conduct for the Tokyo Olympics, stipulates that no one can go out of the Athletes' Village except for training and competition.

Sports Hochi, a Japanese sports media outlet, evaluated that "it has become a situation that has raised doubts about the safe operation of the Olympics."
