Germany's handball players have reached the quarter-finals at the Olympic Games and can continue to hope for a medal.

The selection of the German Handball Federation won on Sunday in Tokyo against Brazil 29:25 (16:12) and finished the preliminary round group A with 6: 4 points in third place.

The best throwers for the team of national coach Alfred Gislason were Steffen Weinhold and Juri Knorr with six goals each.

The opponent in the knockout round has yet to be determined.

Possible rivals are world champions Denmark, the World Cup runner-up Sweden and Egypt.
