In artistic gymnastics, competitions on individual apparatus will continue on Monday.

Four Russians will take part in the three finals at once: Denis Ablyazin, Nikita Nagorny, Angelina Melnikova and Victoria Listunova.

All of them, with a favorable set of circumstances, are able to win medals.

Domestic athletes have especially good chances for awards in the vault.

In this form, Ablyazin won the Olympic silver medal twice.

In 2012, he lost only to Yang Hak Sung, and in 2016 to Lee Segwang.

Now Denis can finally rise to the highest step of the podium.

If, for the third time in a row, he takes an Olympic medal on this projectile, he will repeat the unique achievement of Nikolai Andrianov.

As for Nagorny, he is the reigning world champion in the vault.

In addition, Nikita will be eager to rehabilitate himself for a failure in floor exercises, where he took only seventh place.

Experienced Ablyazin will also perform on his favorite rings, on which he took bronze in Rio de Janeiro.

In Tokyo, the native of Penza will once again try to challenge the undefeated Eleftherios Petrunias, who became the Olympic champion in Brazil.

He also has three wins at the World Cup and five at the European Championship.

Listunova and Melnikova will perform in women's floor exercises. The latter, like Nagorny, will try to win the second individual Olympic medal in Japan, especially in this form she is the current bronze medalist of the planetary championship. And her 16-year-old compatriot has the opportunity to pleasantly surprise the fans. At the same time, in qualifying, she took the sixth line and left behind her friend from the national team.

Competitions in team events will continue on Monday.

In particular, the last matches in the group stage will be played by Russian volleyball and handball players.

The first will measure their strength with Turkey, which is only in fourth place in the group.

The national team still has the opportunity to break out into the leaders.

To do this, you need to win and hope for a misfire of Italy in the confrontation with the United States.

But in case of defeat, Sergio Busato's wards risk falling to fourth and getting strong Brazil as a rival in the playoffs.

Handball players will not rise above the second place, but they can fall below if they are defeated by Spain.

But even a draw will suit the domestic team, which in this case will not have to meet with two-time Olympic champions Norwegians or the current world champions of the Dutch in the quarterfinals.

In beach volleyball, the first meetings in the playoffs will be held by two Russian couples at once: Ilya Leshukov / Konstantin Semyonov and Vyacheslav Krasilnikov / Oleg Stoyanovsky.

The former will examine the Chileans Marco Grimalto / Esteban Grimalto, and the latter - the Spaniards Pablo Herrera / Adriana Gavira.

On the one hand, on paper, both Russian duos are favorites.

On the other hand, they should not forget about the misfire of Nadezhda Makroguzova and Svetlana Holomina already in the 1/8 finals, who on Sunday unexpectedly lost to the representatives of Latvia Anastasia Kravchenoka and Tina Graudina and finished their performance.

At the start of the week, the Russians may well win a medal in cycling.

It's about the team sprint on the track.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Daria Shmeleva and Anastasia Voinova reached silver, leaving only the Chinese women Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi ahead.

Since then, they have only become stronger: they won the 2017 World Cup, the European Games and three times - the European Championship.

It remains to take first place at the Olympics.

True, there have been no major international competitions on the cycle track for a long time to assess how ready the domestic duet is.

In June, the continental championship was supposed to take place in Belarus, but it was postponed.

At the same time, in cycling, Russia has not won Olympic gold medals since 2004.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, Sergei Emelin and Sergei Semyonov, who suffered on the eve of defeat in the quarterfinals, will continue their hike for bronze medals.

The 2018 world champion Alexander Chekhirkin will also start at the tournament in the up to 77 kg weight category.

A native of Rostov-on-Don, only 35 years old, he got on the first Olympic Games in his career and will try to win a medal outright.

Judging by the tournament grid, the debutant is quite capable of at least reaching the final.

The same applies to Musa Evloev, performing in the category up to 97 kg.

The 28-year-old athlete came to Tokyo in the rank of "favorite number one", because he is at the same time the reigning world and European champion.

A young star, 22-year-old Khanum Veliyeva, will compete in freestyle wrestling.

In 2019, she sensationally won the European Championship, and in 2021, she was defeated only in a decisive battle.

However, she has never performed at the World Cup.

And just in the 1/8 finals, Veliyev will meet with the silver medalist of the 2018 World Cup Canadian Daniel Lappage.

In shooting on Monday, two sets of medals will be played out for men at once - in a high-speed pistol from 25 meters and shooting from a rifle from three positions from 50 meters. In the latter form, Sergey Kamensky, who took silver in Rio de Janeiro, has every chance of an award.

And then he just a little was not enough to win.

In addition, he holds an Olympic record in qualification (1184) in this discipline.

But it will be difficult for Leonid Yekimov to make it to the finals in a high-speed pistol, because after the first day of qualification he takes only tenth place.

Also, in several types of qualifications will be held with the participation of the Russians.

In athletics, hammer thrower Valery Pronkin and pole vaulter, reigning world champion Angelica Sidorova will compete for reaching the finals.

Both are not only obliged to go further, but can also fight for victory.

Nikita Schleikher and Evgeny Kuznetsov in diving from a three-meter springboard will try to rehabilitate themselves for failing in a pair.

In order to make it to the semifinals, they just need to get into the top 18.

In rowing, qualifying heats will take place in four types at once. Svetlana Chernigovskaya and Natalia Podolskaya will take part in the 200 m single kayak. In a double canoe at 1000 m - Viktor Melantyev and Vladislav Chebotar. In a solo kayak at 1000 m - Maxim Spesivtsev and Roman Anoshkin. And in a two-person kayak at 500 m - Kira Stepanova and Varvara Baranova. In theory, everyone has a good chance of reaching the next stage.
