The Dutch team has protested against the United States' participation in the mixed 4x400 meters final at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.
The American team, competitor of the Dutch foursome, was disqualified on Friday, but this was reversed hours later.
"Team USA made an invalid substitution point. The team was initially disqualified. For reasons that are unclear, the jury has decided to reverse this decision," the Athletics Union wrote on Twitter on Saturday, about 2.5 hours before the final battle.
The Netherlands seems to be a contender for a place in the 4x400 meters mixed, after Jochem Dobber, Lieke Klaver, Lisanne de Witte and Ramsey Angela recorded the second time (3.10.69) in the series on Friday.
Only Poland was faster.
The final of the 4x400 meters mixed is Saturday at 2.35 pm (Dutch time) at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
The jury will probably only rule on the protest after the race, so the US seems to start anyway.
If the Netherlands is in the right, the American team will be removed from the final standings.
