The last time Daniel Ståhl participated in the Olympic Games, he missed the final after a failed qualifier.

This time he passed the qualifying limit already in the first throw.

Today's gold?

He secured that in the final throw of the final.

But for the 28-year-old's mother, Taina Ståhl, Friday's qualifier was more stressful than the final day.

- The qualifier was even worse.

After he threw two training throws in the cage, I thought "how at seventeen should he do it?".

But then he passed the qualifying limit already in the first, and it was fantastic after such a big burden, she says to SVT Sport.

"Terrible to see him"

The Ståhl family followed the final at home together with fitness coach Jussi Tukiainen and Spårvägen's leader Åke Ruus.

And when Daniel Ståhl threw 68.90 in the second attempt, it felt very good, says Taina.

- It is known from experience that Weisshaidinger (Austrian Lukas, third behind the Swedish duo) usually does not usually answer when Daniel leads.

He can not really counter, but you never know ...

How did it feel inside, here and there?

- I dare not have positive or negative thoughts.

What happens, happens.

It's clear that it's awful to see him step into the ring and see his facial expression, then it's a thousand thoughts.

But you sit quietly and watch.

What does gold mean to Daniel?

- It has been his big goal throughout sports life.

He has matured, participated in various championships and gained important experience, says Taina Ståhl who also pays tribute to Simon Pettersson, who took Olympic silver with his throw of 67.39:

- Simon has developed and made a fantastic season.

His performance today was heroic, he also has an incredible winner's skull.

Celebrated in two countries

Taina, who is Finnish, believes that gold also means a great deal in the neighboring country to the east.

- It's huge there, there's gold for them too.

They are proud that their mother is from Finland, you know.

What do you think of their celebration now?

- Their party will consist of meat and french fries!

And how will it be at home in Viksjö?

- Now we will grill and cuddle here.

There will be parties in the wee hours.
