Stablemate Valtteri Bottas took second place and a disappointed Max Verstappen finished third.

The Briton was booed out by the Dutch supporters on the spot, who harbor continued resentment against him after the GP competition in Great Britain where he and Verstappen drove together.

The Dutchman then crashed into the protective barrier and was forced to go to hospital.

Verstappen still leads the summary eight points before the rival, but would have liked a better starting position before Sunday's race.

- We have been a bit after the whole weekend, and it showed again during the qualifiers.

Of course, this is not what we wanted, but we are still third and will see what we can do, he says.

If Hamilton wins the competition, he secures his 100th Formula 1 victory in his career and goes up alongside the Dutchman on 185 points before the summer break.
