Kenyan sprinter Mark Odhiambo tested positive for methasterone and its metabolites (steroid), the first doping case detected during the Tokyo Olympics, the International Testing Agency (ITA) said on Saturday.

Odhiambo was temporarily suspended a few hours before his entry into contention in the 100m series.

The sample was taken on July 28 in Tokyo, said in a statement the ITA, responsible for the entire anti-doping program at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old athlete, holder of a record in 10 sec 05 on the straight line, appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

This is the second case of doping concerning a Kenyan sportsman in the history of the Olympic Games: Simon Kemboi was excluded in Sydney in 2000 before competing in the 4x400m relay.

Earlier in the day, Nigerian Blessing Okagbare had been temporarily suspended following a positive test for growth hormone on July 19, that is to say during the Olympic period, but outside the sites dedicated to the Olympics.
