In the final of the men's 200-meter backstroke at the Tokyo Olympics, Ryosuke Irie finished in 1'57.32 and finished 7th.

Irie, who won the silver medal in this event of the 2012 London Games, faced the final on the 30th, aiming for the first medal in two competitions.

I put the first 50 meters in 5th place, but I couldn't keep up with the speed, so I turned back 100 meters in 7th place.

In the second half, I spurted, but I couldn't improve my position and finished in 1'57.32, finishing 7th.

The gold medal was Evgeny Rylov of the Russian Olympic Committee, the silver medal was Ryan Murphy of the United States, and the bronze medal was Luke Greenbank of the United Kingdom.

"The stage of the final in Tokyo I have no regrets and I am truly happy"

After the race, Irie said with tears, "I have no regrets because I was able to swim in the final stage of the Tokyo Olympics. I have spent a lot of difficult times, but I am really happy from the bottom of my heart."

After that, he said, "The race is still going on, so I want to swim to the end for the team."
