Femke Heemskerk was unable to provide a stunt in the final of the 100-meter freestyle on Friday.

The Dutchman was close to a podium spot, but finished sixth.

The 33-year-old Heemskerk touched in 52.79 and was therefore just above the Dutch record that she set in April 2015 at 52.69.

The born Roelofarendsveense kept the British Anna Hopkin and the American Abbey Weitzeil behind him.

The gold went to the Australian Emma McKeon, who with a time of 51.96 broke the Olympic record that she had set at 52.13 in the semi-finals.

Hong Kong's Siobhán Haughey took silver and Australia's Cate Campbell took bronze.
