Alexander Zverev is only missing one victory for the Olympic medal.

The best German tennis professional won against French outsider Jeremy Chardy 6: 4, 6: 1 in Tokyo on Thursday and made it to the semi-finals.

With his undisputed success, the man from Hamburg made the duel with the Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic perfect.

If Zverev wants to use the first chance for a medal, he has to defeat the dominant player of the previous tennis season in the semifinals on Friday.

In the event of a defeat, the bronze medal would remain.

The so far last German individual medal in the men's category was won by Tommy Haas in 2000 with silver.

In the women's category, Angelique Kerber also returned with silver in 2016.
