Marit Bouwmeester seems to have no chance for title prolongation in the Laser Radial class at the Olympic Games.

The sailor was disqualified in the seventh race in Tokyo on Thursday, seventh in the eighth race and dropped from place three to place seven in the ranking.

Windsurfer Lilian de Geus has no chance for the medals in the RS:X class.

The 33-year-old Bouwmeester started too early in the seventh race and was therefore disqualified.

The Friezin, like five other sailors, sailed into the triangle between the start line and the first buoy and received the fatal black flag.

Because every sailor may delete the worst result, Bouwmeester's disqualification is no longer in the standings.

It means that her first race, where she finished only 21st, now counts towards her standings.

For that reason, the Dutch, who was unable to repair the damage a race later, dropped a few places.

Bouwmeester now has 63 points.

Anne-Marie Rindom is in the lead with 25 points.

Tuula Tenkanen is second with 46 points and Josefin Olsson is number three (47 points).

There are still two races and a medal race on the program.

Bouwmeester seems so hopeless for gold, but the podium is not out of sight yet.

It is Bouwmeester's third time participating in the Olympic Games.

In Rio (2016) she took gold and in London (2012) she had to settle for a silver medal.

De Geus no chance for medals

De Geus still has a medal race to go, but already knows that she will not win a medal in Tokyo.

The windsurfer finished fourth in the twelfth race, but barely caught up with the top three in the standings.

Earlier in the day, De Geus had finished ninth in race ten and fifth in race eleven.

Prior to the medal race, the three-time world champion is fifth with sixty points.

That is an unbridgeable gap of 24 points on the French Charline Picon, who is third.

China's Lu Yunxiu is in the lead with thirty points.

De Geus finished fourth at the 2016 Games.

Sailors Afrodite Zeger and Lobke Berkhout in the 470 class have not yet found their feet in the water around the island of Enoshima.

The duo finished eighth in the third race and eleventh in the fourth.

This puts them fourteenth in the standings, well away from the medals.

In the 49er, Bart Lambriex and Pim van Vugt finished eighth and ninth in races five and six.

The duo dropped to sixth place in the standings as a result.
