The Italian team in rowing class four without a helmsman received, to say the least, a special boost ahead of Wednesday's Olympic final.

One hour before the final, it became known that Bruno Rosetti tested positive for covid-19, and could not participate.

Rosetti asymptomatic

The positive test result had come during the night before the final, but fortunately for the Italian team, the other three in the team (Matteo Castaldo, Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino) had tested negative and were thus allowed to participate.

Instead of Rosetti, who according to Italian media was asymptomatic, Marco Di Costanzo had to step into the team as a replacement.

Australia took gold

But despite the chaotic recharging, Italy took bronze, after a strong finish where they went for the favorite Great Britain.

Australia took gold, after leading from start to finish.

The silver went to Romania.
