There was most talk about the former world champions Johan Kristoffersson and Timmy Hansen before the World Cup premiere in Barcelona.

But instead, the least deserving Swede in the championship showed up and won the first race of the season.

Kevin Hansen defeated reigning champion Johan Kristoffersson twice, both in the semifinals and the final.

- He is one of the drivers I have to beat if I am to become world champion.

He was probably the fastest on the track if he was allowed to ride freely.

I have worked hard during the winter, and made several changes.

And it feels very nice that they gave results immediately.

That feeling after crossing the finish line first, when you have four World Cup titles chasing behind, it was absolutely wonderful, says Kevin Hansen.

Hansen won for the first time in Abu Dhabi in 2019. That time he was awarded the victory after the race was over.

- This time all the drivers were still on the track.

This time I won both the semifinals and the final.

I did it on my own, and it feels incredibly wonderful.

It sat where it should, I can say, says Kevin Hansen.

"Wonderful to get the fans back"

Eight races now remain in the World Cup series.

Kevin Hansen knows what he wants.

- It is important to keep focus where the focus should be.

This was a very good start to the season.

But there are eight more competitions, with Höljes as the next task.

It is important to try to repeat what we did this weekend there, says Kevin Hansen.

And Höljes, the World Cup series' second part of the competition, will be run on 20-22 August.

And is something that Kevin Hansen is looking forward to.

- It will be wonderful to get the fans back on track.

How much did we not long for the fans?

It has been noticed now during the European Football Championship and Formula 1 that it will be something extra.

Since then, Höljes has always been a good path for me.

In 2020 I was on the podium and in 2019 I was close to victory.

But it will be extremely tough with many drivers wanting to challenge.

But that's also how I like it best.

That is when it tastes best to take the victory, says Kevin Hansen.
