Egypt snatched the ticket to qualify for the quarter-finals of the football competitions at the Olympic Games, currently being held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, by defeating Australia with two clean goals, today, Wednesday, by obtaining the runner-up position in the third group.

Ahmed Yasser Rayan scored for the pharaohs in the 45th minute, and Ammar Hamdi strengthened the lead in the 85th minute, bringing the team to four points, ahead of the Argentine team by goal difference.

The Argentine team had tied with Spain 1-1 at the same time, which contributed to the qualification of the Egyptian team, amid difficult calculations to qualify.

The Egyptian national team will face its Brazilian counterpart, the defending champion, in the quarter-finals next Saturday.
