AIU has ten countries under category A, ie the countries that they see as the countries with the highest doping risk in athletics.

National team athletes from these countries must live up to strict requirements from the AIU, among other things, they must, at least ten months before a World Cup or Olympics, undergo at least three unannounced doping tests.

Between two test sessions, no more than three weeks may have elapsed.

"Must pull his straw to the pile"

It is now clear that 20 athletes from these ten countries have not lived up to the requirements (which their respective national federations are responsible for ensuring) imposed on the athletes, and they are therefore stopped from participating in the Olympics.

18 of them received a red light from the AIU yesterday, while two have already been stopped by the Kenyan Athletics Federation.

- The national federations must pull their weight in the fight against doping.

The rules for athletes in the "Category A" countries are very clear, and it is of the utmost importance that you live up to them so that we can implement long-term changes, and so that we can ensure that pure athletes get fair conditions, says AIU chairman David Howman in a press release.

AIU has not announced who the stopped athletes are.
